In Drugs We Trust
I have to wonder why the pharma firms ever advertise. I guess it's the FDA that requires them to describe in minute detail everything bad that can happen if one takes a particular medication, but when you actually listen to what's said in the ad, well, it just scares the shit outa me! Thinking about moving the tv to the bathroom to keep from soiling the rest of the house!

These drug companies advertise incessantly, and the list of bodily disasters that can occur as a result of taking any one of these medications makes one wonder whether suffering with the disease isn't the better way to go.

The Demise of the Rule of Law
At some point in our lifetimes, the rule of law has been destroyed. 'Twas a slow process by administrations of both political parties and by federal, state and local politicians. Law is now a wet, floppy, slippery thing that no one can get his hands around. Definitions are flexible as overcooked pasta and no law applies to everyone. Politicians seem to make sure most laws don't apply to them. No one really knows which laws apply to him, except that any law can apply if a crooked judge wants it to. And, they're all crooked.

Sam Clements is Turning Over In His Grave
Regarding journalism: in my youth, it was procedure to check out stories and see if they're true. This included stories from politicians. Today's "press release journalism," in which the reporters listen to the politician and simply write it, would never pass a real editor. "Go find out if he really did that!" "See if you can dig up a little more on this!"
