What The Second Amendment Really Means

This video is really worth a look. Or two.

Tip of the battered gray fedora to Chuck Muth. Also, to TWC and MK for their assistance.

People should not be afraid of their governments; governments should be afraid of their people.

Warm regards,

Col. Hogan

With that particular service there is a button on the right hand part of the screen labeled embed video.

Click on that and then copy the code you see. Once you've copied the code, go to your blogger compose page, where there are two tabs. One of those tabs is labeled html.

Paste the code into that section where you would like the video to be.

If you want it centered, use the center tag. Make sure the < is right next to the word center.

< center >

close the tag like this at the end of the embedded code

< /center >

You fool with it and preview it, you'll get the hang quickly.

The second amendment isn't about duck hunting. I love that.

Got a license for that thing?

Yeah, it's called the second friggin' amendment.

I've got the same problem with videos, Col. I follow the instructions as outlined by twc to the letter and then the clip positions itself way out of whack on my page and messes up my template. Oh well.

America is one of the very few countries left in the world with its citizens' rights intact and they're determined they're going to take those away. It's going to be a tough fight for you guys but well worth it.

By the way, I like this quote you use:

People should not be afraid of their governments; governments should be afraid of their people.

They're only afraid it seems before election time (as demonstrated by Obama's ums and ahs and flickering eyes during question time). Once the election is over, it's no more Mr Nice Guy because they know they've got several years ahead of them to basically do as they please.

TWC,

Thanks very lots. I've attempted this a few times, but I was using the url.

Aurora,

There are roughly 300 million people in the US, most of them adults. It's very disturbing to observe that most of them don't care in the least for their rights, in favor of "feeling safe."

Note the difference. To be safe (in the context of safety from crime), one must accept responsibility for his own defense and the defense of his family. To "feel safe," one simply ignores his own well being, under the assumption that his safety will be provided for by others.

Guess what: Those others do not care and will not act. They'll draw the chalk line and remove the bodies to the morgue.

I know that you, Aurora, understand what I'm saying, what with the state of law "enforcement" in your country.

You definitely have to use the embed code.

You have to click on the "edit html" tab in blogger, it doesn't work if you are on the "compose" tab.

As Aurora said, it's also tricky to see where on the page you are pasting the embed code on the "edit html" side.

Yeah, if you're in blogger you have to use the html tab and paste the youtube code in there.

And i also think you need to have the upgraded blogger version. Nice video, thanks for posting and she is 100% right.

MK,

Thanks. I'll give it a try as soon as I have more time.....perhaps this weekend.

This woman's testimony should be shared as it hit home on every important point. Send this woman some roses and a thank you letter.

I remember seeing that on Cspan at the time it was aired years back. The woman shows herculean restraint. I recall cussing at the TV when they showed Chuck U. Schumer.

Col. Hogan said...

TF,

This woman is a hero in my book.

Kent,

Yeah, I'm curious as to what sort of questions were asked of her after the presentation. With Schumer in the room, she probably had to choose her words very carefully, not to say what she really wanted to say.

I sent this in an email to others that I know who may not see your blog. If everybody does that maybe it will get around. I saw where your nephew put it on his myspace. I am really glad that Texas has since corrected this travesty with our concealed carry law. Other states illegaly preventing self-defence should have lawsuits brought against them.

The only thing the video did not show is (I assume) the look of shocked outrage on Schumer's face after the last line. I did notice how bored he was through the testimony. I'm thinkin' she got his attention real good.

Col. Hogan said...

Steve,

Too bad that it takes a disaster like this to wake people up. Thanks for spreading this around.

Col.,

I just tried an extensive search for the whole transcript to no avail. I'm pretty sure that the first lines in the video _were_ an answer to Schumer - perhaps not to a question but a comment he had made earlier. And she didn't pull any punches because of him being there - I think it energized her, actually. I'm not certain when this hearing actually was and I'm thinking it is a joint 'congressional hearing' on gun control, rather than a senate hearing. It should be available on a gov. site. I'll look around a bit more. IIRC there was also an NRA staff there who testified as well as several others in the pro-gun movement including Lott and David Kopel. Seemed to recall Kopel (a hero of mine - from whom I got a reply to an email recently on the Heller case! ;-) having the furthest seat away from the camera. I may email him again on this, because I'd like to see the transcript as well.

Col. Hogan said...

Kent,

Best of luck on that.

I've read Lott's first book, but I've yet to read anything by Kopel. Guess I'd better get cracking.

Kopel was a Cato guy and they published, iirc, his "Samurai, Mountie and Cowboy" which was a good 'primer' on pro gun stuff. It's where I first saw the definition of 'well regulated' in association with arms in relation to the 2nd amendment, while having heard my grandfather use it in that manner wrt his double barreled shotgun. That argument was used in the Heller case and cited by Scalia ('well trained, well aimed').

He has an email newsletter for 2nd amendment stuff you might like. Go here:

his "Samurai, Mountie and Cowboy" which was a good 'primer'

Highly recommended. Gets the TWC seal of approval.

Kent & TWC,

I'll be looking for Kopel's books very soon. Thanks!
