A Possible Future History--and How to Avoid It!

I wasn't aware of Dan Simmons, but I am now. This short story of his is definitely worth a read. It ought to be required reading in every home. Islam is the religion of peace, but the word "peace" in islam means "submission."

Tip of the battered gray fedora: Stephen Browne at Rants and Raves.

Peace comes through philosophical conviction.

Warm regards,

Well, they say folks are a little slow in Texas. That'ts to match the slow pace of life, okay!!

What were the three words?

Steve,

I didn't get it on the first try, either. I'll have to read it again.

There are two ways to have peace, there probably are more but i'm trying to sound philosophical here alright.

1.Maintain superior firepower and use it every now and then.
2.Throw down your weapons and do what the enemy says.

The backward jihadis from the stone age know this. Yet, sophisticated westerners have to be told this by bloggers and authors. Crazy eh.

Thanks for posting by the way.

MK,

By fighting the "war" in the inept way it's been done, in refusing to identify the enemy nor to declare war on that enemy, and in fact, fighting the wrong enemy, we've emboldened the enemy and made it likely that the war will last a very long time.

TF,

Thanks. I've started rereading the sort story, and I'll soon get my hands on some of Simmons' other work.

I found some of these links on the 'three words' interesting. Perhaps some others will too.

I like "I am you". :-)

On another note, we are totally screwed. (yeah, I know that was already the case ;-) See McCain's speech today. Predict massive landslide in November by whomever the Dems decide.

Kent,

Thanks. I read a couple of those. I guess the three words are for the reader to find, according to his own evaluation of the story.

I didn't hear McCain's speech; just snippets on the radio. Sounded pretty grim for the freedom side. I also saw, a couple of days ago, a video of part of an Obama speech, in which he promises to unilaterally disarm the whole military of its nukes.

Scary.

Col. H,

Yep We're Sooooo screwed. Sounds like McCain would do more on global warming than Hillary. Bill didn't budge on it and for good reasons.

Does the LP have any candidate yet?

Kent,

When Mrs Clinton starts to look good, you know we're really in trouble.
